While everyone’s been playing their hearts out over at PokerStars, the world’s largest poker site’s officials has been busily at work behind the scenes scouting out players for its brand new online poker players team. (Actually, over 2,000 of its members sent in applications for the position.) And now, after searching cyberspace high and low, they’ve done it, and the members of the new Team PokerStars Online have been revealed.

Just in time for Christmas, actually, PokerStars announced the names of the 23 players picked for this great honor.

Among the players on the inaugural roster of Team PokerStars Online are:

  • stevesbets, aka Steve Jacobs, winner of the $25,000 Heads-Up event at the 2008 PokerStars World Championship of Online Poker
  • Boku87, aka Thomas Boekhoff, who is in the midst of a stated mission of turning $5 into a $100,000 bankroll
  • spacegravy, aka Grayson Physioc, runner-up in the PokerStars $10,000 Guaranteed and one-time winner of the site’s $200 rebuy event
  • NicP, aka Nichoel Peppe, the woman who graced ESPN 2009 WSOP Main Event cameras as she took a worthy 75th place finish

In all, there are 18 different countries represented in the inaugural Team PokerStars Online. To be eligible a player had to be one of the 5,000 to have achieved SuperNova status at the site, and that’s (jokingly) a plenty to clear the PokerStars first deposit bonus.

And for all those of you who didn’t get selected (or didn’t even get the memo that there was an application process in first place), take heart – PokerStars has announced that it will be adding new players to Team PokerStars Online in 2010.
