Heads Up Championship At WCOOP Concludes

There is nothing more exciting in tournament poker than a heads up format. Each year the World Championship of Online Poker has a heads up event that has everyone seeing tournament brackets and big chip counts. Unlike most traditional poker tournament formats where players compete until there is one person left standing, a heads up tournament is much like the NCAA basketball tournament wherein a field of 64 players are matched up head to head in a traditional bracket.

The semi final match of the tournament brought together Steve “stevesbets” Jacobs against online player “zivziv” in what zivziv recalls was a very tough match. Jacobs is a very fast player and zivziv undoubtedly was having trouble making good poker decision in all the fast play. Steve Jacobs would go on to defeat zivziv and then take on ElkY. ElkY (Bertrand Grospellier) is actually a world renowned video gamer and could easily keep up with Jacobs speed in the championship match. In fact at one point ElkY held a three to one chip lead, unfortunately for him he couldn’t hold on and Steve Jacobs went on to win the title and the $560,000 first prize. Below are the top ten finishers in the heads up tournament:

  1. stevesbets (United States) $560,000
