Stealing Pots
The definition of stealing pots is that you pick up pots when nobody shows any strength, and players in general seem more concerned about the weakness of their hands compared to what you try to represent.
With the correct position, and timing you can perform an action to steal the pot in poker. This table action shouldn't be executed if your opponents at the table are betting heavily pre flop. You rather attempt to steal a pot against weaker players.
The best situation to perform a stealing attempt is when you are sitting in late position, and everyone has checked up to you. Though, you could also raise the limpers to scare them out of the pot.
Another situation when stealing pots becomes very important is when you are low stacked, and the bubble is looming. In this case it is wise to attack the medium stacked poker players, as they probably won't protect their blinds because they don't want to jeopardize their place in the money.
Tips
- When playing online, the perfect player to attack is the one playing on multi tables at once. Those players focus on big pots and are not paying attention very careful, thus their blinds are up for grabs since they will most likely will fold when they don't have a hand.
- Always pick up the blinds by betting when a player is disconnected. Don't feel guilty, in online poker there is no such thing as sportsmanship. It's all about the money, if you don't do it, someone else will.
- Be prepared to lay your hand down when you get called or raised.
