Avoid Getting Trapped

A low kicker in poker can cost you a significant amount of money, since many times the winning hand in Texas Hold'em is decided by a top pair and top kicker. Players tend to call hands with weaker kickers especially when sitting in the blinds.

Folding after the flop

It is wise to learn to lay down your hand if an opponent bets strong after the flop, and you've completely missed it with a strong starting hand like AK.

Don't let a decent hand fool you from the prospect that you will loose.

Playing the right cards in Early Position

Positions are of underestimated value to many poker players. Many times you'll see players playing weak hands sitting in early position.

Learn to fold hands like KJ, KT, QT, JT, AT from your starting hand selection when sitting in early position. This way you won't risk becoming pot committed and loose a lot of your money in a pot you apparently shouldn't be in.

How strong is Ace Queen?

Laying down a hand as AJ or lower is not so hard when facing action, but laying down AQ seems to be impossible for some players, even though this action will save your bankroll on many occasions.

Let's take a look at how well AQ holds up against the premium, secondary, and lower (pocket) hands:

Premium hands

vs 92-8%

vs 72-18%

vs 72-18%

Secondary hands

vs 70-30%

vs 56-42%

vs 58-42%

vs 57-48%

vs 50-50%

Lower pockets

to vs 53-47%

As you can see in the examples, AQ doesn't do very well against the premium and secondary hands. Just be warned when you're dealt AQ and the table tends to be tight.
