Full Tilt Poker has announced that it will be hosting the upcoming Merit Cyprus Classic of Poker, which will include hosting online poker qualifiers and satellites leading into the main event.
The Merit Cyprus Classic is one of the stops on the World Poker Tour, which is predominantly sponsored by Party Poker. However, for whatever reason Party Poker has opted not to sponsor the 2010 Merit Cyprus Classic which left the opportunity open for Full Tilt Poker to swoop in and take the helm. This will be Full Tilt Poker's first time hosting the WPT Merit Cyprus Classic.
The Merit Cyprus Classic will take place from August 17 - 26 on the Turkish Occupied Side of the Cypriot Island and boasts an approximately $3 million total guaranteed prize pool.
The Full Tilt Poker prize packages into the Merit Cyprus Classic are valued at $7,500 and will include the $5,400 into the main event, as well as a luxurious, all-inclusive 10-day stay in the Merit Crystal Cove Hotel & Casino, which means that while you're there you'll enjoy the spa, private beach access, and attendance at the special Full Tilt Poker WPT Merit Cyprus Classic VIP Launch Party.
Qualifiers run on Sundays at 1:45 pm ET and Wednesdays at 2:45 pm ET at Full Tilt Poker. Buy-ins for the Sunday qualifiers are $300 + $22, while buy-ins for the Wednesday qualifiers are $200 + $16. Players can avoid paying those buy-ins, however, by qualifying for the qualifiers through Full Tilt's satellite tournaments.
August 20 is the start date for the 6-day main event of the 2010 Merit Cyprus Classic.
Be aware that as the Merit Cyprus Classic is to take place on the 37% of land on Cypriot Island that is not part of the EU, laws of the European Union are not applicable there.
Many of Full Tilt Poker's pro players will be in attendance at the WPT Merit Cyprus Classic to compete alongside the winners of the Full Tilt Poker Merit Cyprus Classic satellites.
