Summer Survival League Rant

// Begin of rant

This post is in regards to our Summer Survival League, a competition of 8 $50 added events with low buy-ins and a final of $1,000 where only 20 players will qualify for. The first prize of the league is nothing less than $500!

Quite frankly, I am a bit fed up with how things are going when we're running special events. As most of you already know, we had plenty of leagues running at Poker For Free in the past, but because of all the freeroll whores ruining the atmosphere, we decided to change our concept around and went from free poker to low buy-ins.

Titan Poker

This summer, we decided to give it yet another try and got in touch with our contact at Titan Poker. After a little bit of negotiating, they offered to put in a nice chunk of cash into the final's prize pool and we decided to add-on $50 to each qualification tournament to make them attractive as well.

Last week we started promoting the Summer Survival League on Poker For Free, as well as on PokerKamers.nl, our Dutch sister site. Yesterday I personally changed the style of our newsletter and send it to over 4,000 Poker Club members (excluding all members from the US, as they aren't allowed to play anyway).

Well..... with that being said you can understand that I was expecting this league to run smoothly, since ONLY 5 players were needed to get it started. So, this morning I woke up, checked the forums and ended being really deceptive. The first tournament was cancelled!

A total of 3 players signed-up for yesterday's event, including some of our most active forum members. Unfortunately, some other members couldn't register because they didn't sign-up at Titan Poker through our site. I am truly sorry for that and will see what we can do about it for next week.

To be totally clear: "I am not giving up!" You can rely on the fact that I will do anything in my power to attract enough players. Whatever it takes, next week there will be a Summer Survival League tournament, (even if that means that I need to terminate my self-exclusion at Titan Poker).

This means that I am specifically asking the ones registered in yesterday's cancelled tournament, Gigagonnie and Rob Edwards (not sure about the third player), to hang in there with me and try again next week.

// End of rant

  • I signed up with titan through PFF so was OK to play in the tourney, if it took place!!
    I was annoyed at the time, mainly due to the fact bankrolling my play at the moment is a bit hard!! I looked at the tourney and thought a booster to my funds was a cert! Especially if the payout structure was correct: - top 5 get paid. Entering would have doubled your money. At least with this we have had a bit of traffic on the forum, which has to be a plus point to all this!! Will be there next week so GL at the tables.

  • The Poker Hyves thing is a great idea Gonnie. I don't have it, so if you can do it it would be awesome! (That way it won't be rejected as spam either...)

    To be honest, the site has not been lacking visitors very much - but since we haven't been running any leagues and such, members just stayed away. If you compare the Summer Survival League to our leader boards, then there is much more value in this one than ever before. I am sure that once we'll get it going, it will be a huge success!

    I'll do whatever I can this week!

    PS: I understand that you like to get a piece of the pie, but with more members - prizes will go up as well. My ultimate dream is offering a WSOP ticket on Poker For Free at some point!

  • I think the main issue is that there has been little activity on the site recently (I mean visitor-wise, the other changes were great). So one the # of visitors and forum posters go up, the rest will follow as well. Maybe it is an idea to post on Poker Hyves (for NL) for promotion. Or make a challenge on referring people to this site. And rest assured: I will hang in there. For me, less people means more chance for money! :-) Comment #2Gigagonnie, Thursday July 9 2009, 15:21
  • I was the mysterious third player. LOL. I am also disappointed as i signed up to titan especially for the tourney. Hopefully it will all be sorted for next week. I have currently rallied together 4 people who will sign up for next weeks tournament. Don't give up it sounds like a promising tournament and will look forward to it next week.
    Thanks for your efforts.
