No Limit

In No Limit poker, the amount of a valid bet or raise must be at least as much as the big blind and the last made bet or raise by an opponent made in the betting round. The highest bet or raised that can be made is the all-in bet, which means that a player wagers his complete stack. Players are allowed to make unlimited amounts of raises, these are named re-raises.

For example, the first bet in a $10-$20 game of No Limit Texas Hold'em must be at least $20. If a player wants to make a raise, this must be at least be $40.

Limit

There are two specific betting limits in Limit Texas Hold'em, the lower - and the higher. A maximum of 1 bet plus 3 raises is allowed in a round of betting, but the bets will be capped after the third raise.

The lower betting limit
This betting limit is determined by the size of all bets, including raises during the first and the second betting round.

The higher betting limit
This betting limit is determined by the size of all bets, including raises during the third and the fourth betting round.

So, the only valid bet in a limit game is the current limit, i.e. $10 on the first and second betting round in a $10-$20 game. In case a player raises in the same situation, it must be raised to $20.

Pot Limit

A valid bet or raise in Pot Limit poker must be at least as much as the big blind or the last bet or raise that is made. The highest Pot Limit bet that can be made is the total value of the current pot plus all current bets, including a player his call.

Unlike Limit, no maximum number of raises exists in Pot Limit.
